Carriemae D. is our first profile dedicated to cross stitch and embroidery talents! Carriemae and her husband are retired now and she spends several hours a day stitching, knitting or doing embroidery work with the full blessing of her husand who likes to keep himself busy as well. Carriemae won our Halloween Giveaway 2019 which included Halloween back issue magazines for cross stitch, knitting and holiday crafts. She mentioned her love of cross stitch and I invited her to share some of her creations with our visitors. I was not disappointed, below are a few of her cherished projects with some interesting details. |
Needle Keepers
"The Flamingo and March needle keep patterns were found on Pinterest and stitched almost entirely in beads on 32 count linen over 2 threads." |
Christmas Stockings
"The Christmas stockings are the things I'm most proud of. My daughter requested these as we lived in Germany for several years and no one does Christmas like the Germans. Cross stitched on 32 count Belfast linen over 2 threads. There's over 200 colors in each one. These were the only things I stitched in 2017. I began them in January and finished the middle of November. Took me a week to 'finish' them. I lined them in silk and backed them with velvet. I was able to send them to my daughter before Christmas 2017." | Just How Long Did They Take?
Carriemae shared with me that she worked on the stockings 5-8 hours per day, 5-6 days per week. Her husband likes to tell people he didn't see her for a year! He's very understanding and appreciates the love and dedication she puts into creating family heirlooms! |
Angel Banner and Birds
"The Angel banner was a purchased pattern, stitched on 32 count even weave over 2 threads. I used lots of sparkly blending filaments and beads. I 'finished' it myself. The Fall Bird was stitched on linen over 2 threads." |
