Are you ready for a new challenge? This might be right up your alley! We have added a new category of authentic vintage French sewing patterns from the late 1950's through the mid 1960's. These are pattern supplements which were previously removed from Femmes D'Aujourd 'Hui magazine (Today's Women magazine). Many may have been inspired by PARIS FASHION WEEK!!
To help you get started, with the permission of Shams (a wonderful sewing blogger), you may reference her Communing With Fabric blog / French Sewing Glossary. This is a great resource for common sewing terms that will likely be used in the French patterns, just cut and paste the following link or type in Communing with Fabric French Sewing Glossary.
This vintage French sewing pattern is printed full size on the back with tracings on top of each other. You may follow the guide to match pattern pieces which are also numbered. For larger pieces that don't completely fit the sheet, you have smaller diagrams with total length of measurements in centimeters (you will need a conversion chart easily obtained on the internet), the total length of those pieces is usually marked on the pattern piece as well. You will need tracing paper to make individual pattern pieces.
Below is a 1950's-60's French sizing chart for Bust, Waist and Hip measurements in centimeters and inches (rounded to the nearest half inch). Please expect that the actual pattern size in inches is very close and may need to be adjusted slightly for your size.
